The initial contribution to the creative New York City Music scene was made as a featured soloist and original member of celebrated Argentine composer
Guillermo Klein's pioneering (quote; Eugene Holley Jr., amazon.com) mid-90's ensemble. Appearing on the CD Big Van / El Minotauro (Beat Records 1995
and Candid Records 1997 ) and in weekly always sold-out concerts during the inception of Mitch Borden's Smalls Jazz Club with esteemed contemporaries
Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Jeff Ballard, Ingrid Jensen, Mark Turner and Aaron Goldberg. As a part of a circuit that named " Unlike any Other - One of
the better continuing experiments in New York" by Peter Watrous of The New York Times, and Energetic, Frenzied, Passionate, Interesting and Finely
Executed by Jazz Times Magazine. Has been referred to as playing a part in formulating the sound of a new generation and era in Jazz & Improvised Music.
Born 1962 in Lulea, Sweden and transplanted to the U.S.A. through scholarships and awards from New England Conservatory of Music (M.M. Composition,
G.D. Performance) and Berklee College of Music (B.M. honors, Outstanding Musicianship Award). Studies with Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley, George Russell
and Joe Maneri. Composition seminars and masterclasses with Contemporary Clasiiscal Masters Toru Takemitsu and Gyorgi Ligeti. And Concert appearances
as a featured soloist with Gary Burton, Peter Erskine and Clare Fischer. All set the pace, inspired and prepared for a career in Modern Innovative Music.
Activity in Europe towards the end of the 90's, with tours and recordings for Four Leaf Clover and Sittel with mainstream Jazz artists Rob McConnell, Bobby Shew
and Deborah Brown, preceded numerous state arts grants awarded for original work as a leader/co-leader. The sub-sequent return to New York City was marked
by Hostfalt's '02 CD-debute as a leader, Eternity Check. Initiated by Jazz Giant Paul Bley and notably featuring one of the very first recordings of electric bass guitar
virtuoso and Down Beat poll-winner Matthew Garrison. And followed by the acclaimed solo CD 29 pieces for the Microtonal Guitar Live at Knitting Factory New York.
A work that using self-invented techniques for interpretation of mentor Joe Maneri's 72-Equal Temperament theory on the standard 6-string/12 fret guitar & electronics.
Has remained to be one of Amazon.com's best selling recordings with music dealing with new pitch systems. As heard continued on the subsequent '06 CD Macroscope.
When not touring, typically heard live weekly in NYC and on the US East Coast, with his own bands, and as a sideman with various creative projects. Sten Hostfalt's work

Alma Maters New England Conservatory of Music (M.M. Composition, G.D. Performance, honors, clinican '92) and Berklee College Of Music (B. M. honors, Outstanding
Musicianship
Award, clinican '06) - The former credited with creating the World's First Conservatory Program for Jazz Studies. And the latter known as the World's leading
School for Modern Music. And since '01, a faculty member of The Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Sten Hostfalt currently directs and teaches out of his own Manhattan
based multi-faceted creative workshop, NYC Guitar Studio. Notably, one of very few educational facilities in the world today, offering systematic teaching of microtonal music.
